Yellapur kids take to archery in big way

For the first time, the taluk stadium in town, witnessing a rare sport, where both boys and girls belongs to forest dwelling community, seen holding bow-knits and focusing on object, like a hunter waits for his prey.

Yes! the young boys and girls are seen practicing archery and their coach G M Tandurayan, putting his efforts to train them. Since last some days, the archery training has been quietly being held in town. With this, they have introduced archery sport in Yellapur.

There are three girls in the team, who will be trained in 10-day training camp, and the coach expresses happiness over the concentration and dedication of his students. The training is being given in three different categories, namely, Sub-junior (14 to 17 years), Juniors (17 to 20 years), and Senior (25 to 35 years). However, girls are not allowed to take part in senior category.

The sub-juniors arm distance is 25-30 meter, Juniors arm distance is 30-40 meter, and seniors arm distance is 40-60 meter. The archery will be classified with one to ten points, and the center circle will be called as ‘X’. All trainers are performing good, he said.

The trainers will take part in Additional Archery Training Camp, organised by State Forest Dwellers Welfare Society, at Thithimati Government PU College in Bengaluru, from October 11 to 13.

The public are praising the efforts of coach Tandurayan, who has been trained by Dehradun Forest Dwellers Welfare Society organised national level archery training.
