Man arrested for raping minor stepdaughter

The police arrested a 24-year-old man for raping his 13-year-old step-daughter in Murugeshpalya.

The suspect has been identified as Ranjith, a native of Kerala. He works in a bakery at Chandapura in Anekal, the police said. The police have booked him under the provisions of POCSO Act.

According to the police, Ranjith befriended a woman from West Bengal who had separated from her husband. She has two daughters aged 13 and 4. Their friendship began a couple of years ago after which they decided to get married a year ago.

Ranjith used to stay at a rented room in Chandapura after his work at the bakery and visit his wife, who lived in Murugeshpalya with her parents, during weekends.

Ranjith’s wife recently came to know about the sexual abuse of her elder daughter. According to her complaint, the sexual abuse has been happening over the last three months. On one occasion, Ranjith had taken the 13-year-old to his room in Chandapura on the pretext of showing her a film and raped her there.

He used to buy her toffees and snacks and convinced her to keep mum. Ranjith’s wife grew suspicious about her elder daughter’s behaviour. When she questioned her, she relvealed the truth. She immediately lodged a complaint. The police arrested Ranjith and booked him under the POCSO Act. He was remanded in judicial custody.
