In poll season, BJP rakes up ex-Cong govts' graft taint

Ahead of polls in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat, the BJP is trying to keep alive the allegations of corruption against the previous Congress governments at the Centre and states.

The BJP is demanding a “proper, fair and time-bound” inquiry into the solar scam in which former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy is under the scanner.

Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters that the “whole DNA of the Congress reeks of corruption” and that its president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul have hardly taken steps to check the menace.

On Wednesday, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan ordered a probe into the solar scam by the vigilance department.

But Prasad insisted on a separate probe as he claimed that many times the ruling CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) and Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) had colluded on some issues.

The BJP has been attacking Rahul ever since he started taking potshots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party chief Amit Shah on his recent tour of Gujarat.

“The UPA government has corruption inscribed in all its elements. First, there was the 2G spectrum scam, then the commonwealth games and Adarsh scam also happened,” said Prasad.

It has been three years since our government came to power, and not even one case of corruption has come forward.
