A day after the downpour wreaked havoc in several parts of the West and Central Bengaluru, the affected areas continue to be in a mess.

The showers have exposed the shoddy work of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike. Road caving has been reported at several areas, including in M S Layout near Vijayanagar, where a portion of road has caved in for about seven feet.

Similar incidents have also been reported at Vyalikaval and Sajjan Rao Circle.

“A portion of road, which was repaired recently, caved in in the area (Vyalikaval). This only shows the substandard work carried out by the BBMP,” said Muniyappa, a resident of Vyalikaval.

Naveen Kumar, a resident of Mahalakshmi Layout said, “The stormwater drain in the area is in poor condition,. The Palike has not desilted the drain for a long time. The SWD filled with silt and garbage has lost the capacity to carry rainwater. The drain overflows when skies open up and the rainwater, along with sewage, gushes into the houses nearby."

BBMP control rooms of West and Central zones were flooded with distress calls from citizens on Saturday.

Printing equipment worth a few crores at Abhimani Publications office in Rajaji Nagar has been damaged in the flooding following the downpour on Friday evening.

The Global Village Tech Park in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, behind RV College of Engineering, was submerged.

Vinay Venkatesh, who works at Global Village Tech Park, said,  “At around 8 pm the water gushed into the office and parking area of the tech park. The furniture and the properties of the office have been damaged.”

Rainwater gushed into the basement of Mantri Mall in Malleswaram, damaging the furniture and other materials.

Massive traffic snarls were witnessed in the inundated Hebbal Junction, Malleswaram, Peenya, Jalahalli Cross, Yeshwantpur, Dr Rajkumar Road near Rajajinagar, Basaveshwara Nagar and Navarang Theatre junction on Saturday.
