100, 101 could save lives during emergencies

She was speaking at the inauguration of the Civil Defence Division 28, which comprises High Grounds and Seshadripuram Police Station limits, on Wednesday. It was an initiative of the Civil Defence in association with the Janaagraha. “How many citizens are aware of emergency numbers like 100, 101, etc? ” she questioned.

The event today is not about celebration but is about doing our duty and creating awareness about the role of the Civil Defence, she added. Radio Amateur Civil and Emergency Services of Bengaluru (RACES) was also formally launched.

Jija Madhavan Hari Singh also inaugurated the Fire Service Week on the occasion of Firemen Martyrs Day at the premises of R A Mundkar Fire and Emergency Service Academy in the City.

The day in 1944 saw the death of 66 fire men at the Victoria Dock in Mumbai after an ammunition dump caught fire. Thus, remembering the brave souls and the lives of the people who died in the tragedy, she flagged off the Fire Service Week.  The Fire Service week is a week-long celebration extending from April 14 - 20.
