Key suspect in doc's murder knew cops well

Even as hundreds of people were paying tribute to the slain doctor, Ravi is said to have met police officers and discussed with them at length about the kidnap episode.

He was also seen helping the traffic cops in clearing the vehicles. For the last two years, Ravi was going steady with Sanjana, one of the seven suspects. The two hatched the plot. Initially, Ravi planned to use Sanjana’s residence as a safe house to keep the kidnap victim, but changed plans. Chetan Kumar, a BBM student was a regular visitor to the gym where Ravi was an instructor. Chetan roped in his classmate Bhushit into the gang.

Sanjana knew the doctor well. A close relative of her said that her family, who had been residents of Sanjaynagar, had been friends with the doctor for the last 21 years. “They were good friends with the doctor for the last 21 years. Sanjana could not wish harm on him,” they said. Terming her as an intelligent girl, the relative mentioned that her only association with the mastermind Ravi Kumar came from the fact, that he visited their house frequently and was a known face.

“Her brother used to go to the same gym, so they used to know each other. He had been visiting the house for the last eight months and everybody thought he was a nice guy. We had no idea that he would use Sanjana like this,” the relative rued. Sanjana, who quit her job at Kotak Mahindra a month ago, is accused of trying to dispose of the jewellery obtained as ransom.
