Make CM's home district a model, says Khandre

The minister for Municipalities, Local Bodies and Public Enterprises Eshwar B Khandre on Friday asked the officials of the urban local body (ULBs) to make the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's home district into a model in the state.

Speaking at the progress review meeting of Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Mandya, Hassan and Kodagu districts, organised at Regional Commissioner's Office here Khandre, said, the government is committed to the overall development of the state and ULBs. The officers in Mysuru region should ensure that all the programmes are executed on time.

The minister also directed the authorities to clear encroachments on government lands and ensure that taxes are collected, which would double the income of ULBs. Besides, Khandre also stressed on proper solid waste management.

Khandre warned the officials of Chamarajanagar district for the delay in executing works sanctioned under various programmes. He pointed out that the works sanctioned under 13th Finance Programme grants were still pending and directed the officials to complete it before December. The minister also said that Rs 4.5 crore sanctioned a few years ago has not been utilised by Kollegal Town Municipal Council.

After reviewing the progress of Mandya district's ULBs, the minister said, the authorities have failed to utilise the funds released under Special Component Plan (SCP) and Tribal Sub Plan (TSP). He warned of stern action against the officials if the funds are not used for development works.

He also directed the officials to clear the bills of the contractors soon after the works are completed.

Khandre directed the officials of all the ULBs to ensure drinking water is supplied round the clock. He also directed the officials to expedite permanent drinking water projects soon.

Blacklist bogus companies

Khandre directed the officials to terminate the contract of the companies which failed to execute quality works. There are a few bogus companies supplying fake and sub-standard products like LED streetlights. The officials should identify the companies and blacklist them, he suggested.

MLAs H P Manjunath, R Narendra, Deputy Commissioner D Randeep and people's representatives from all the five districts were present.
