Lorry runs biker over, driver flees

A 31-year-old man died on the spot when a lorry collided with his bike in Banaswadi on Tuesday morning. The deceased, Shivakumar, was a resident of Hegde Nagar and a construction worker, the police said.

According to police, the accident happened on the Outer Ring Road diversion towards Kalyan Nagar when Shivakumar was heading towards K R Puram.

An over-speeding lorry bearing registration number KA-01-7832 knocked down the bike and ran over him, police said. The rider died on the spot, police added.

The lorry driver fled fearing mob fury. But after going a distance he abandoned the vehicle and escaped.

The police reached the spot and shifted his body to B R Ambedkar Hospital for postmortem. Banaswadi police registered a case, seized the lorry and also arrested the driver identified as Nagaraj. Investigations are on.
