Horse 'forced' to drink liquor in UP

In a shameful act of cruelty  on an animal, a horse was  reportedly  "forced" to drink liquor during a social function  at Uttar Pradesh's   Baghpat district, about 500 km from here.

According to reports, the incident occurred at Hilwari village in the district a few days ago. There was a function organised by a family on the occasion of 'chatti' (a ritual performed on the sixth day of the birth of a male child).

The incident came to light after a video purportedly showing the cruelty went viral. The video shows some youths forcing the horse to drink something after which the animal  fell on the  ground.

A man, who appears to be the owner of the horse, tries to stop the youths but is pushed aside. The youths are also seen dancing on the body of the horse.

A crowd of people is seen around the horse, but no one tries to intervene and rescue the horse from its tormentors. All are seen laughing.

The local police said that it does not have any information about the incident. "We will investigate the reports...stern action will be taken against those responsible under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act," said a senior district official in Baghpat.
