Aiming to secure power in 2019 elections, YSR Congress chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy kick-started his 3,000-km long 'Prajasankalpa Padayatra' - a walkathon covering 125 Assembly segments in Andhra Pradesh on Monday.

The opposition leader began his 'padayatra' from YSR Ghat, the final resting place of his father YS Rajasekhara Reddy in Kadapa district.

The yatra which is expected to take six to eight months to complete is expected to culminate at Ichapuram in Srikakulam district. Senior party leaders, legislators and MPs are expected to join Jagan.

Jagan who had offered floral tributes to his father at Idupulapaya addressed party workers and sympathisers who have gathered at the exit gate of the Idupulapaya estate. "Just like my father YSR, I want to remain in the hearts of the public by doing well," Jagan said.

Turning his tirade against Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, he asked whether Naidu has the guts to contest turncoat YSRC MLAs to get reelected on TDP ticket. The rival party has left no stone unturned to trouble me and ruin my political career. This saddened me greatly, he rued.

Before the launch of the Padayatra, Jagan offered prayers at the CSI Church in Kadapa and in Tirumala temple. The event was planned on the lines of his father's Padayatra called Maha Prasthanam in 2003 which led the Congress to power in united Andhra Pradesh. YSR was the APCC chief at the time of the Padayatra.
