Artistes seek higher honorarium to perform at lit fest

The artistes have been demanding higher honorarium to perform during the 83rd All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelana scheduled to be held in Mysuru from November 24 to 26.

In a meeting here on Thursday, Assistant Director for Kannada and Culture H Chennappa said, a majority of the artistes have been demanding a higher honorarium, which is not possible for the organising committee to pay. According to the officer, playback singer Vijay Prakash has demanded Rs 13 lakh to perform during the event. Similarly, a few others too have demanded higher pays. The organising committee has fixed Rs 40 lakh for the cultural committee to organise the events.

Deputy Commissioner D Randeep told the authorities to convince the artistes and also to make them understand the significance of the event. He suggested to look for the artistes who suit the available budget.

According to the authorities, not many private people have come forward to sponsor the event.
