'New frontier' awaits skipper Chhetri

Last Updated 21 November 2017, 14:48 IST

Few images were doing rounds on internet on Tuesday of Indian captain Sunil Chhetri's wedding to Sonam Bhattacharya on Tuesday. The photos were only that of the sangeet ceremony.

Chettri will marry his long-time girlfriend  Sonam Bhattacharya, daughter of Mohun Bagan great Subrata Bhattacharya.

It was earlier reported that Chhetri's wedding would be an extended affair spanning over a month to as he has had to work it around the Indian Super League (ISL) schedule in which he  plays for  Bengaluru FC.

The sangeet ceremony was held between Bengaluru's first and second matches in the league. The first match ended with a straightforward 2-0 win for Bengaluru over Mumbai City FC.

The Indian captain had the perfect match in the build-up to the engagement. He scored the second goal in Bengaluru's first win in the ISL.

He flew out of Bengaluru to New Delhi that very night for the Sangeet ceremony. The engagement took place on Monday. The main wedding ceremony itself will be held on December 4 in Kolkata.

That is also a rest day, which means that, with no other matches being held, other players can attend the wedding. The reception will then be held on December 24 in Bengaluru, which Chettri has called his 'adopted city.'
