Law ministry sources on Saturday said once the processing was over, the recommendation would be sent to the President for approval.

Asked about the Supreme Court collegium recommending the name of Justice J S Kehar, Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court as the new Chief Justice for Karnataka, they said the law ministry has not been officially intimated about it.

The SC collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan, had on April 4 recommended Justice Lokur as the Chief Justice as Karnataka High Court.

However, on April 9, it decided to suggest transfer of Justice Kehar to Karnataka and post Justice Lokur in Guwahati High Court.

Dinakaran issue
Amidst all these, the fate of Justice Dinakaran remains uncertain. The notification on the appointment of Justice Lokur should coincide with the transfer of Justice Dinakaran as there cannot be two CJs in one court. The collegium had first asked him to go on leave and later decided to shift him to Sikkim High Court.

Again, it went with its earlier recommendation of transferring Jammu and Kashmir High Court Chief Justice Barin Ghosh to Sikkim. Justice Ghosh took oath of office last week.
Justice Dinakaran is currently abstaining from judicial duties but continues as the Karnataka High Court Chief Justice.
