Heritage tag mooted for Gavipuram

 A meeting to evolve suggestions to make it a reality was conducted on Sunday.
Ravi Subrahmanya, Basavanagudi MLA called for the diversion of sewage from the historic lake.

He also suggested to bring out a booklet on the significance of the place and the famous Kadalekai Parishe (groundnut festival) celebrated here.

Besides, Subrahmanya also recommended for a boat festival at the lake, 3D model of the city, sound and light show and installing telescopes atop the hills of Gavipuram.

K Chandrashekhar, Corporator wanted measures to be taken to check encroachment of areas of heritage importance, including Kempambudhi Lake area.

Gavipuram has all the potential to be developed as a major tourist attraction, the Corporator noted.

An expert panel comprising Sanjay Sridhar from Agendra for Bangalore Infrastructure Development (ABIDe), Meera K from media publication Citizen Matters, Dr S K Aruni from ICHR, Asvathnarayan from INTACH, Karnataka chapter and Narasimha from Udayabhanu Kala Sangha were present.
