Last Updated 05 December 2017, 16:28 IST

Janata Dal (Secular) national president H D Deve Gowda has charged that the Congress government in the state has divided the unity of Lingayats in the state.

Addressing a meeting of the party workers here, he said several leaders of Lingayat community served as the chief ministers of the state. But the Congress has now divided the community, he charged.

He said people who believe that they can retain the power by creating conflicts among castes and money power do not have sense.

Gowda criticised Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stating that he is speaking of finishing off the JD(S)."I had encouraged him a lot. But he left the party. He had joined hands with the Congress when he was the deputy chief minister with us. He had believed that JD(S) will not last long if he and M P Prakash leave the party. Even today, he is hell bent on finishing off the JD(S)," Gowda charged.

He said Siddaramaiah is not doing enough for his own Kuruba community. Siddaramaiah has kept all the powers to himself, he charged.

He said the chief minister is wasting tax payers' money by appointing 12 political secretaries who have little or no responsibilities and giving pay and perks.
