The state government on Tuesday kickstarted the process of receiving applications from those aspiring to own a house under 'Mukhyamantri 1-lakh Housing Programme.'

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah initiated the process at his home office 'Krishna' and said that the programme was meant for the economically weaker section in Bengaluru.

The Revenue Department will provide the land on the outskirts of Bengaluru on which the houses will be built. The Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation Ltd will implement the project, he added.

The annual income limit to submit the application is Rs 87,000. And those who want to apply should be the resident of Bengaluru for a minimum of five years. The cost of a house varies from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 6 lakh. The government has decided to provide Rs 3.50 lakh subsidy to those belonging to SC/ST, while others will be given a subsidy of Rs 1.50 lakh, the chief minister added.

The last day to submit the applications is January 5, 2018, and the applications can be submitted both online and offline at any of the Bengaluru One centres and BBMP ward offices.
