CPCRI hosts World Soil Day

World Soil Day celebrations and distribution of soil health cards to farmers was inaugurated by MLA N A Nellikkunnu at CPCRI in Kasargod.

Various programmes were organised by ICAR-Central Plantation Crops Research Institute, Kasaragod as part of the World Soil Day celebration. Soil health cards were distributed to about 100 farmers from various villages of Kasaragod district on the occasion.

In his inaugural address, MLA Nellikkunnu said that soil testing and distribution of soil health cards would be quite beneficial to the farming community for optimising nutrient management in crops cultivated, reducing cost of cultivation and enhancing productivity. It is an important intervention for ensuring sustainable crop production, he added.

Dr Ravi Bhat, Director-in-charge presided over the inaugural function. Dr A C Mathew, Dr P Subramanian, Dr S Neenu and Dr C Thamban presented various topics in the farmers' training programme and scientist-farmer interface programme on soil test based nutrient management and technologies for soil conservation conducted as part of world soil day celebration.
