Now, auto licences must be linked to Aadhaar

Auto-rickshaw licences must be linked to Aadhaar. The Transport Department plans the linking to prevent duplicate auto-rickshaw licences in Bengaluru.

RTOs have received complaints about auto-rickshaw owners and drivers duplicating licences. Some of them duplicated more than five copies of a single licence.

Transport Commissioner B Dayananda said: "We are going to introduce the e-permit system to prevent licence duplication. Once this comes into force, we can link Aadhaar to auto-rickshaw licences."

Dayananda said the rule would apply  to existing licence holders  as well as new applicants. "We will give time to link Aadhaar. All auto-rickshaw drivers must link Aadhaar or else their licence will be cancelled. Initially, only Bengaluru will have e-permits.  We will later implement it  in other districts of the state," he added.

* 1.25 lakh licensed auto-rickshaws in the city.

* 15,000 duplicate auto-rickshaw licences.
