108 prisoners to be released tomorrow

Bengaluru: The state government will release 108 prisoners on Wednesday.

Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy told DH that the government had sought the release of 120 prisoners, but Governor Vajubhai Vala gave his assent for the release of only 108 prisoners serving jail term across the state.

"We have decided to release the prisoners one month ahead of the schedule (January 26). There is no need for them to stay longer than required, now that the Governor has given his assent," he said.

Reddy is scheduled to formally release some of the inmates at the Central Prisons, Parappana Agrahara, at 4 pm on Wednesday. The state Cabinet had taken a decision to release more than 100 prisoners in the last week of October.
