The jatha conducted by the BJP from Bhagamandala to Madikeri, urging for the road repair was a gimmick by it to mislead the people, criticised Bettageri Congress Committee President Napanda Ganesh.

Addressing reporters here on Thursday, he said that taking out a jatha was totally unnecessary as the road repair work has already started. The gesture shows that the BJP is desperate to win the upcoming elections.

Congress leader Kotelira Mohan said that during his tenure of 15 years as an MLA, groundbreaking Bopaiah has not contributed to the development of the district. He has been misleading people with fake promises.

Committee member Tennira Ramesh pointed out at the MLA's statement saying Rs 1,800 crore has been brought to the district for developmental works during the regime of BJP in the state. If the fund was utilised properly there was no reason to develop the roads under the CM's fund today.

BJP MLAs were present during the ground breaking ceremony of Madikeri-Bhagamandala road. But now they are staging protests, he added.

Leaders Theerthaprasad and M Cariappa were present.
