Row over burial ground: Kagodu promises to verify documents

Demanding burial land in Palemadu, the members of Bhoomi Mathu Vasathi Hakku Vanchithara Horata Samithi staged a protest in front of the DC's office in Madikeri on Friday.

Minister Kagodu Thimmappa who met the protesters said that the Chief Minister has directed officials to identify land for a burial ground in each gram panchayat.

"I will verify the documents and direct the district administration to withdraw the sanctioning of land for a cricket stadium at Palemadu", he said.

Title deeds would be distributed for those who have constructed houses on paisari land under section 94cc of land revenue act.

Horata Samithi President D S Nirvanappa said that a two-acre land was sanctioned for a burial ground in 2009, at Hodduru-Palemadu. However, the district administration has decided to hand over the land for a cricket stadium. "We will intensify our fight if we fail to get justice," he said.
