Under the banner of the Akhila Bharateeya Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP), college students took out a protest rally and staged a protest here on Friday, demanding filling up of vacant posts in universities and colleges, probe into alleged irregularities, and punishment for those who raped and murdered a girl in Vijayapur.

After taking out a rally from Vidyanagar to Mini Vidhan Soudha via Hosur Circle and Chennamma Circle, students raised slogans against the State Government, charging that the standard of education is deteriorating due to wrong policies of the government.

Vacant posts of vice-chancellors in universities, principals in colleges, and teaching and non-teaching staff should be filled up. A comprehensive probe should be ordered into alleged corruption in marks card printing, while universities should be given autonomy in purchasing marks cards. Inquiry should also be ordered into the alleged scam in laptop purchase. Colleges should be provided with required infrastructure, they demanded.

Protesters also demanded capital punishment for those who raped and murdered a girl in Vijayapur.

Vinay Goudar, Poojita Reddy, Tejas Gokak, and others led the protest.
