UIDAI centre gets CISF cover

Last Updated 24 December 2017, 01:37 IST

The UIDAI data centre, situated near Kodigehalli in north Bengaluru, is being manned by an armed squad of 80 CISF commandos.

The Central Industrial Security Force has been providing security to the repository since December 2014 on a temporary basis. But the central government recently regularised the deployment, saying it is mandatory for such installations to have this  type of security cover.

The Union home ministry has cleared the proposal for the deployment of around 160 CISF personnel at the Unique Identification Authority of India centre. Presently, 80 armed personnel are guarding the facility, led by a deputy commandant-rank officer.  The remaining commandos will be deployed soon, CISF sources said.

The CISF will provide round-the-clock armed security cover to the facility. Special vehicle-borne Quick Reaction Teams will be stationed at key points in order to avert terror attacks or hostage- and sabotage-like situations.
