The Congress has fielded former parliamentarian Karan Singh Yadav as its candidate for the upcoming Alwar Lok Sabha byelection.
The Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee has welcomed the move.
Besides Alwar, byelections are due for Ajmer Lok Sabha and Mandalgarh Assembly seats. However, the Election Commission is yet to announce byelection dates.
A BJP MP's demise necessitated byelection for the Alwar seat. Alwar Lok Sabha constituency has around three lakh Yadav voters.
In the 2014 general elections, the Congress fielded Alwar former royal family's Jitendra Singh, who lost to the BJP's Mahant Chand Nath by more than 2.83 lakh votes.
Rajasthan PCC chief Sachin Pilot said the decision was taken after rigorous consultation by party members.
As per sources in the Congress, it is believed that former minister Jitendra Singh was dropped in favour of Karan Singh Yadav to woo Yadav voters in Ajmer and Mandalgarh (Bhilwara) seats.
