Newly married couple hang themselves

A newly married couple committed suicide by hanging themselves at their residence at Mailasandra in Kengeri on Sunday.

The deceased have been identified as Praveen (24), a native of Channasandra in Mandya, and Priya (19), a resident of Uttarahalli. They were married on November 2. Praveen used to sell food on a pushcart.

Priya's parents tried calling her on Sunday morning, but their calls went unanswered, the police said. The anxious parents came over to the couple's home, only to find them hanging. Her parents informed the Kengeri police.

According to the statement given to the police by Priya's parents, the couple were  happy and there was no misunderstanding between them. They expressed  shock over  the incident and said they have no idea why Praveen and Priya took such an extreme step.

The Kengeri police have registered a case and are investigating.
