A 23-year-old woman and her paramour were arrested on Wednesday by Anekal police for killing the woman's two-and-a-half-year-old daughter.

The suspects Niveditha (23) and Satish (25) are residents of Havada Devanahalli near Anekal town.

Niveditha was married to her relative Chandrashekar, an iron fabricator, six years ago. The couple had a daughter Annapurna.

Unhappy with the marriage, she started an affair with Satish, also a relative.

After being into the relationship for the past one-and-a-half year, they decided to shift to some other place to lead a peaceful life.

The police said that on December 24, Niveditha and Satish planned to leave their village. Niveditha told her in-laws that she was taking her daughter to a hospital in Anekal as she was down with a fever.

She left the house with Annapurna and joined Satish. The duo then strangulated the child with Niveditha's dupatta and threw her in a bush at TVS Junction, near their village.

As Niveditha did not return home from the hospital, Chandrashekar made unsuccessful attempts to search them. He filed a missing complaint with the police.

Based on mobile phone call details, the police picked them up from the house of a Satish's acquaintence. During the interrogation, the duo confessed to the crime and led to police t0 the bush where they had thrown the body.

The police recovered decomposed body of Annapurna and sent it to Anekal Government Hospital for an autopsy.

Niveditha and Satish have been booked for the murder.
