Last Updated 08 January 2018, 17:59 IST

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that funds will be earmarked for underground drainage work in Moodbidri in the next budget.

Speaking after inaugurating development works worth Rs 79.50 crore at Moodbidri, he said that Moodbidri has already been declared as a taluk. The taluk will be bifurcated from Mangaluru taluk and will start functioning from January 10.

He accused the BJP of instigating violence. The people of the district should not allow the BJP to come to power. Coming down heavily on Union Minister Anant Kumar Hegde's statement on the Constitution, he said that Hegde is not qualified to become even a gram panchayat member.

Jain's candidature

Siddaramaiah said that Abhayachandra Jain had not used any influence to become a minister. During the reshuffle, when he lost the post, he was not disheartened.

"Jain is a refined and honest politician. He has good health and wanted to know why he will not contest the election. If he is ready to contest, then I will recommend his name to the High Command."

To this, Jain reciprocated positively by folding his hands.
