Karagada drinking water project struggle committee convener Gurushantappa has urged the government to release grants towards the second phase of Karagada drinking water project.

Addressing reporters here on Tuesday, he said that the concrete lining should be done at the Devikere channel. Seven feet high concrete walls should be constructed on either side of the channel. The experts have suggested this method to prevent the channel walls from collapsing. A project proposal of Rs 15 crore has been submitted to the government. The government should release the grants soon, he said.

As the completion report of the first phase is not submitted, the works under the second phase have not been started, he pointed out. He said he has submitted a memorandum to the chief minister in this regard. If the request is not considered, an indefinite stir will be started from February 10.

Struggle committee convener B Amjad accused MLA C T Ravi of carrying out petty politics in the project. The MLA has been giving false assurances as the elections are nearing.

Another convener Ravish Kyatanabeedu said that a farmers' meet will be organised to discuss the irrigation issues in the second week of February.

H M Renukaradhya was present.
