Enumerators have a field day, 12 tigers sighted on Day 3

A total of 12 tigers were sighted in the tiger reserves of Bandipur, Nagarahole and Biligirirangana Betta (BR Hill), on the third day of the statewide tiger census on Wednesday.

While the volunteers and Forest personnel sighted six tigers in Bandipur National Park, four tigers were spotted in Nagarahole and two at BR Hill. Besides, pug marks and excreta of the wild cats were found in abundance.

According to sources, two tigers were sighted by the participants at the Kundukere range in Bandipur forest, one tiger each was sighted at Bandipur, Maddur, Maleyuru and N Begur. Two tigers were spotted at Hunsur, Nagarahole range, one each at D B Kuppe and Antharasanthe ranges. Two tigers were sighted at BR Hill range.

Other animals

The enumerators also sighted one leopard each at Moolehole in Bandipur and Maleyuru, three wild dogs and 17 elephants at Gundre, 11 jumbos at GS Betta, nine in Kundukere, two in Omkar and three elephants in Maleyuru.

Herbivores

While the census of carnivorous animals was conducted for the last three days, the participants will take the census of herbivorous animals over the next two days from Thursday. They will take a walk in beats of two km each during the census, it is said.
