Father, sister killed over property dispute

 
Subbappa picked up a quarrel with the family members over property sharing, and in a fit of rage attacked his father Manja Naik (65) with a knife.

He later turned his wrath against mother Gowramma (60), younger brother Hiriyanna (35) and sister Vasanthi (25) who came to Manja Naik’s rescue.

Manja Naik and Vasanti died on the spot due to heavy bleeding. Gowramma and Hiriyanna were hospitalised in Sagar and later shifted to McGann Hospital in Shimoga for treatment.
Subbappa, in his attempt to flee the spot, fell into a canal near his house. He was rescued and arrested later. Deputy Superintendent of Police Devaraj visited the spot.

Subbappa is the elder among the four children of Manja Naik. The joint family owns three-acre areca plantation and four-acre paddy field.

The sources said, Subbappa often used to enter into confrontation with family members over sharing the property and was once put behind bars also. Subbappa had attempted to assault his family members a month ago. A case was registered with Jog-Kargal police.
