Man held for impregnating stepdaughter

A swimming instructor was arrested for reportedly raping and impregnating his minor stepdaughter.

Raj Singh (30), a resident of Kodigehalli, raped the girl over the past few months, the police said.

The victim, a Class VIII student at a private school, is a child from his wife's first marriage.

As she was absent from school for a long period, a schoolteacher visited her home and found that she was sick. The teacher took the girl to a doctor, who confirmed the pregnancy.

The girl told her teacher that her stepfather had been sexually assaulting her for several months when her mother, a domestic help, was at work. He threatened her into keeping quiet.

The teacher informed the school management, which alerted the child welfare committee. The committee lodged a complaint with the police.

Based on the complaint, the police arrested Singh, a native of Assam, and booked him under the POCSO Act.
