The Karkala unit of BJP staged a protest in front of the Bandimutt bus stand in Karkala to protest against the non-commencement of 'Pura Bhavana' (Town Hall) project.

Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar alleged that former Union Minister Veerappa Moily had laid the foundation stone for a slew of projects four years ago but those projects, including the construction of Town Hall, have not materialised so far.

Kumar said that then Petroleum Minister Moily had on January 19, 2014, laid the foundation stone for the Town Hall project at about 100 meters distance from the Bandimutt bus stand.

He said voters should be told about the blunders committed by Congress leaders. All though Moily had promised that funds to the tune of Rs 2 crore would be released immediately and the work would get over at the earliest, the work has not been initiated so far. Many artistes would have benefited if the Town Hall was constructed, he said.

During the overnight protest that will continue till Saturday morning, Kumar said the protesters will recall more such projects for which the Congress leaders laid the foundation stone and conveniently forgot about in Karkala constituency. Kumar said that Veerappa Moily had promised a viewers' gallery at the Miyar Lava-Kusha Kambala venue at the cost of Rs 1 crore and development of Anekere lake as a tourist spot, but there was no attention paid by the Congress leader later on, he alleged.
