A human being will not become great by birth, but due to his good deeds. Therefore, caste should not be attributed to great personalities and their achievements, said MLA C T Ravi.

He was speaking during Ambigara Chowdaiah Jayanti organised by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat and Kannada and Culture Department at Kuvempu Kalamandira in Chikkamagaluru on Sunday.

At a time when the caste system was powerful in society, Ambigara Chowdaiah stressed on the need for a society free of discrimination and he spread the message through his vachana compositions. Personalities like him should not be confined to a single caste, he added.
