'Do not confine great personalities to caste'

A human being will not become great by birth, but due to his good deeds. Therefore, caste should not be attributed to great personalities and their achievements, said MLA C T Ravi.

He was speaking during Ambigara Chowdaiah Jayanti organised by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat and Kannada and Culture Department at Kuvempu Kalamandira in Chikkamagaluru on Sunday.

The people who have fought for equality in society should be our role models, the MLA said.

At a time when the caste system was powerful in society, Ambigara Chowdaiah stressed on the need for a society free of discrimination and he spread the message through his vachana compositions. Personalities like him should not be confined to a single caste, he added.

Jungle Lodges and Resorts Corporation president A N Mahesh called upon the people of various communities such as 'mogavira', 'besta' and 'gangamatastha' to unite. Women from these communities should achieve financial liberty and should contribute towards the progress of the society, he said.

District Gangamatastha Association president K M Dhananjay, Taluk Unit president Dharmesh, BSP district unit president K T Radhakrishna and district Mogavira Sangha president D L Shankarnath were present.
