A court has convicted a man of assaulting Basavanagudi traffic head constable Shantha Veeranna during a drunk-driving check in  February 2014.

The Second Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate,  Venkanna B Hosamani, sentenced Munawar Pasha, of Avalahalli, to three years' imprisonment and fined him

On February  23,  2014, Veeranna, along with a sub-inspector, was conducting a drunk-driving check near the Lalbagh West Gate. Pasha drove up in a luxury car around  12.15 am. He picked a quarrel with the police and assaulted Veeranna.

An FIR was later registered at the  Basavanagudi police station under IPC sections 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation).
