Those members of a family whose names had got suspended from ration cards for their inability to seed Aadhaar, can now get their names included, District-in-Charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj said.

Speaking at a district-level food vigilance committee meet, he said that the names of 1.10 lakh members have been removed from ration cards for failure to seed Aadhaar in Udupi district. As a result, many are not getting foodgrains. "In rural areas, names can be included in gram panchayats and franchises in urban areas. After their inclusion, the beneficiaries have to inform the same to the food department in the taluk office," he said.

When the members said that many do not get foodgrains even after seeding Aadhaar, the minister directed the officials to set right the anomalies. BPL card is essential for Deen Dayal electricity connection, Bhagyalakshmi Yojane and Vajpayee Arogya Yojane.

Hence, BPL cards should be issued on a priority basis, the minister said.

He said that all vehicles transporting foodgrains under public distribution system should be installed with GPS.

The officials should ensure that the foodgrains that are stocked do not rot.

ZP president Dinakar Babu, Udupi CMC president Meenakshi Madhava, Additional DC G Anuradha, Zilla Panchayat CEO Shivananda Kapashi and others were present.
