Old woman sprayed with eight bullets in 25 seconds

An old woman in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut district was shot  at by three armed assailants, who  pumped eight bullets into her   in 25 seconds on Wednesday.  

The incident occurred in Sortha village in the district. The matter came to light after a CCTV footage  of the murder went viral on social media.

The footage shows three youths with pistols opening fire at the woman  in a quick succession.

As many as eight bullets were pumped into her within a span of 25 seconds. The last bullet hit her head on the head after  she slumped against  a cot.

Another woman, who  is seen sitting on the other cot, was, however, spared and allowed to leave.

The assailants had barged into her house after shooting her son dead a few moments ago, police said.

According to the police, old enmity is believed to be the reason behind the twin murders.

"We have launched a search for the assailants... two of them have been identified,"  said a senior police officer  in Meerut.

The state has been shaken by a spate of rapes, murders and armed robberies  over the past few days.
