Hearing a petition by Devaneshan, the division bench headed by Justice Manjula Chellur has ordered notice to the State Government. The petitioners had said that the Mall has violated building bylaws, which is leading to traffic congestion.

Status quo ordered

The High Court  ordered status quo in connection with the State Government’s decision to amend the powers of the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes.

The petitioners Dr C S Dwarkanath and five others had moved the HC in connection with amendment made by the Government dated April 4.

The State’s new rule to make the powers of the Chairman at par with Cabinet minister will take away powers contrary to the objects in which the commission has been constituted.
The petitioners submitted that the new rule is aimed at diluting the powers of the commission. The appointment of member secretary will defeat the very purpose of establishing the commission. The division bench headed by Justice Manjula Chellur has ordered status quo.
