Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha on Saturday took assistant commissioner to task when the later tried to restrict the media persons during Hanuman Jayanti celebrations in Hunsur town in the district.

"You are not offering it (right to carry out procession) in charity. We are taking out procession on the route suggested by you. If you pressure us, I will stage a sit-in right here on the road," Simha told the assistant commissioner.

"Don't hurt our sentiments. If you do, will lose our temper and things go awry. Don't let this happen. Let us take out the procession. Is this a marathon race? We cannot do it (procession) by running," the MP told the officer.

Meanwhile, the Hanuman Jayanti procession kick-off on a colourful note from Ranganath Layout.

Thousands of devotees donning Hanuma Male took part in the procession.

Pratap Simha holding Nandi Kamba danced for a while. The procession passed through Kalkunike Circle, Hotel Shabari Prasad, old bridge, Rotary Circle, new bus stand and will culminate at Manjunath Temple.

MLA H P Manjunath and former MP H Vishwanath took part in the procession.
