JOIN USA 26-year-old woman was raped at knifepoint by a Facebook friend at a secluded eucalyptus grove in Marathahalli on Monday.
The woman said Manoj Manju, who became her Facebook friend, turned out to be the friend of her husband Manjunath, who had abandoned her three months ago. The woman was desperately trying to locate her husband when she stumbled upon Manoj on Facebook.
Manoj promised to help her find Manjunath, for which the woman had paid Rs 2,000, besides buying him a mobile phone.
On Monday, Manoj called the woman to an area near New Horizon College in Kadubeesanahalli, saying he wanted to share some information about her husband. The woman went on her scooter.
Saying he wanted to show her something inside the eucalyptus grove, Manoj took her there and raped her at knifepoint.
The woman recovered from the shock, got home and informed her family members about the rape. She was taken to hospital before lodging a police complaint.
In her complaint, the woman said she had learnt later that her husband had set her up for the rape.
The Marathahalli police have launched a manhunt to capture Manoj and Manjunath, who are absconding.
