Oberoi opens again sans hype

The reopening ceremony was attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan. Also present were East India Hotels’ Chairman and CEO P R S Oberoi and President Liam Lambert.

“The baby is reborn. We all are deeply moved, proud and determined. Our ambition is now to make this hotel the best in Asia,” Lambert said at the reopening ceremony.
Asked why the ceremony was kept a low-key affair, Lambert said: “We didn’t want a lavish party or anything of that kind as the renovation is because of the worst-ever terror attack. The mood is sombre and yet everybody is filled with enthusiasm. We have a long way to go now.”
