AIMPLB may expel Nadvi for pro-Rammandir stance

The AIMPLB has formed a four-member committee to decide on disciplinary action against Maulana Syed Salman Hussaini Nadvi for favouring handing over of disputed land in Ayodhya, for the construction of Ram temple.

The All Indian Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has taken a strong exception to Nadvi's out-of-court settlement proposal and for taking a stand in contravention of the board's traditional stand.

A decision is expected on the expulsion of Nadvi on Sunday as the issue has taken a centre stage at the three-day crucial plenary of the board underway here.

The executive meeting on Friday pulled up Nadvi, a scholar from Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama, a leading seminary in Lucknow, for skipping the crucial plenary meet.

According to sources, Nadvi has reportedly left Hyderabad. While leaving he alleged that executive members Kamal Farooqi and S Q R Ilyas humiliated him. The board has also taken cognizance of Nadvi's allegations on it.

The committee comprises AIMPLB president Rabey Hasani Nadvi, general secretary Wali Rahmani and executive members Arshad Madani and Khalid Saifullah Rahmani.

Speaking to reports Nadvi had said that the formula he proposed will ensure peace and communal harmony. "There is a dictatorship in the board and few people are controlling it," he said.

However, Ilyas, who is the convenor of the Babri Masjid committee, denied the allegations made by Nadvi against him on Saturday. "The land of mosque can't be sold, gifted or alienated. This is an attempt to malign the board," he said.

He took exception of Nadvi talking to the press on behalf of the board. "If he doesn't agree with the board, let him resign and then do whatever he wants," said Ilyas.

Some members see a conspiracy to divide the board with the help of Nadvi. They said he proposed the formula on the eve of the plenary to create confusion.
