ZP CEO locks up 13 erring PDOs as punishment in Yadgiri

CEO Avinash Rajendran Menon of the Yadagiri Zilla Panchayat, on Saturday, locked up 13 panchayat development officers (PDOs) in an office room.

Apparently, he did it to punish the 13 PDOs for not submitting reports on the distribution of houses in 13 gram panchayat limits of Surapura taluk,  after conducting gram sabha meetings.

The CEO had issued a directive to distribute houses that have been alloted to the villagers of the 13 gram panchayats under various schemes of the government.

"It's two years since I issued the orders and the distribution has not been done. I had also asked them appoint nodal officers from the ZP and hold GP meetings; and that order has also been ignored by these PDOs. Over 2000 houses that have not been allotted are lying vacant since 2016, " CEO Menon said.

Social worker Yankoba said that PDOs were burdened with the work of five additional GPs apart from their own.

"If officers err, the CEO has to issue a show-cause notice. Locking them up in room is not right," he added.

The PDOs were locked up in the office room from 10 am to 11 pm without food and water.

The adamant CEO also remained in his office, refusing to go home, demanding a written admission from the locked up PDOs stating that they had not held GP meetings and failed to distribute 2000 houses.
