Student-made jewellery receives accolades

Over hundreds of visitors thronged to the TMA Pai Planetarium here on Friday, where the exhibition was going on to have a look at the creative jewellery on display.

Crafts Council of Karnataka Secretary Bharathi Govindraj after going through the designs displayed at the exhibition said that the efforts of the institute in teaching fashion jewellery designing and making would provide students an opportunity for self-employment and good earning in future. The innovative ideas and craftsmanship of the students in making the low cost jewellery is praiseworthy, she added.

Student Affairs Director Dr Pushpa Kini said the efforts of the students in making such a variety of jewellery using different materials is commendable.

A large number of creative designs made using a variety of inexpensive materials like thread, paper, terracota, metal, jute, coconut shells, leaves, sea shells, synthetic beads, pebbles and semi-precious stones were on display.

Indira Ballal, wife of Manipal University Pro-Chancellor Dr H S Ballal, inaugurated the expo.
