AAB petitions Guv over delay in swearing-in of high court judges

Advocates Association, Bengaluru (AAB) on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to the Governor Vajubhai Vala with regard to the delay in swearing in of the five judges appointed to the High Court of Karnataka.

The memorandum states that the appointment notification of the five judges has been issued on February 11 by the Central government. However, the swearing in of the judges has been delayed.

A P Ranganatha , president, AAB said: "The swearing in ceremony of the judges was supposed to take place on February 14 but has been postponed to February 19.''

"The appointments of the judges have come through after strong protests and inordinate delay. Further delay in the the oath taking is a travesty of justice,'' he observed.

The association has sought for prevention of delay in the oath taking of the judges so that they can commence the hearing of cases and fulfil their duties.
