Cultivate a childlike faith

It is amazing how the colourful designs are formed on the outside surface, something beyond the imitation of art. The white rind within and the red thick inlay studded with black seeds is really admirable. Each seed within the melon, in turn is capable of drawing through itself two hundred thousand times its own weight.

The melon seed must lose itself into the ground if it has to bear much fruit. The Faith process is much the same. Faith is to lose or immerse ourselves completely in the hands of God with a spirit of total surrender.

Jesus talks about the mustard seed saying I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it would move. Nothing would be impossible (Mathew 17:20). Faith is to be sure of the things we hope for and to be certain of the things we cannot see (Hebrews 11:1).

Along life’s journey, we face many impossible and sometimes, life-threatening situations. But God calls us to have Faith in Him. Saint Augustine says: “If sorrow makes you shed tears, then faith in the promises of God makes us dry them.”

When you find it hard to have Faith in God especially when there is darkness in your life, look at the chicks under the wings of the hen. There is darkness around them, but they know that they are safe under the shelter of their mothers wings. Faith in God sees the invisible, believes the incredible and receives the impossible. It was by Faith that Noah, Abraham, Sarah, believed in the impossible and saw the Glory of God (Hebrews 11).

A man once asked his little son to go up the attic to pick up a guitar. The little boy comes down screaming saying: “Daddy, it is dark out there in the attic.” The father reassuringly says: “Go up again, my son, don’t worry, God is in there.” The boy stealthily climbs up and stands before the attic saying: “Hey God, dad says you are in there. Can you turn on the light I’m pretty scared to come in.”

Cultivate a childlike faith. Immerse yourself in him. In your darkest moments, ask God to turn on the lights. Believe he is there. For with God all things are possible (Mathew 19:26).
