Protestors demanded in the memorandum submitted to Deputy Commissioner that the Town Municipality should cancel its decision and stop collecting additional fee from pushcart vendors and other street vendors.

They stated that most of the poor vendors in the town are carrying out business obtaining bank loans through various self-employement schemes of the government. Earlier, the Municipality was collecting only Rs 5 from those vendors. However, the Municipality has increased the fee from Rs 5 to Rs 10 without holding discussion with the vendors. Moreover, contract to collect fee was handed over to private contractors through tenders. The decision should be reviewed, since it has become an overburden on vendors, they explained.

A delegation including Pushcart Vendors Association President Manjunath, Members Nadeem, Thammanni, Rajagopal, Congress Leaders M L Moorthi, A N Mahesh, C H Lokesh, JD(S) Leader Bharath, BSP Leaders K T Radhakrishna and Eshwar were present.
