Student drowned at Gangolli

He along with his friend Royston Pinto were swimming when the incident took place. Though Pinto tried to save Hebbar, he too was washed away in the strong current. However, he was rescued by the locals.

Hebbar is the son of Shubhada English Medium School Principal Bhaskar Hebbar. A case has been registered.

Bakery gutted

An accidental fire broke out at a bakery near Milagres in the wee hours of Monday. The loss is estimated at Rs 1.50 lakh.  

The Canara Traders and Bakery and Sweets owned by Noel Sandeep Menezes caught fire at around 3 am owing to short circuit.

The incident came to light when the shop was was about to be opened. Police and fire service personnel rushed to the spot and doused the fire.

The furnitures, bakery items and equipments have been completely destroyed due to the fire.  
A complaint has been registered at Mangalore north (Bunder) police station.

Rider killed

A two wheeler rider was killed when a lorry knocked him down at Kolambe in Bajpe police station limits on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Mogammed Nowfal. Rash and negligent driving caused the mishap. A case has been registered.

Houses damaged

The houses have been damaged owing to the heavy breeze at Karpe in Bantwal on Monday. The houses belong to Prabhakar Prabhu, Govinda Rao, Honnappa Naika, Krishnappa Naika and Umesh Naika have been damaged.

A coconut tree fell on the house of Govinda Rao and the house developed cracks.
More than 10 electric poles have been uprooted.
