Police told to act as per EC instructions

Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy on Thursday said that he had directed police officers to act as per instructions of the election commission in the wake of forthcoming Assembly elections.

He was speaking to reporters after chairing a meeting with senior police officers at Vidhana Soudha.

"I've directed the officers to curb rowdy elements and thwart attempts of anti-social elements to trigger violence," he said.

Reddy said that he had asked the police to use powers granted to them and curb crimes at educational institutions, besides effectively controlling illegal activities like matka.

"The police will keep an eye on criminals from the notorious Bawaria gang in Uttar Pradesh. We won't let these gangsters return to Uttar Pradesh. We will send them to Parappana Agrahara," Reddy remarked.

He also came down heavily on the BJP leaders for targetting the Congress government.

"The BJP leaders make baseless allegations every day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi should have analysed data before making comments on the state government. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath delivers speeches in Karnataka when his party has bitten the dust in Uttar Pradesh," he said.
