Bengaluru, DHNS: Sandalwood film producer Jayasridevi was arrested on Wednesday and sent to the central prison in a 12-year-old cheque bounce case.

She was sentenced to a simple one-year imprisonment after being convicted in the case.

The case was registered before the 18th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court after Jayasridevi failed to repay a Rs 34-lakh loan with interest that she had taken from Anand, owner of Ashwini Picture Production.

According to the police, Jayasridevi took the loan while producing the movie 'Habba'.

She failed to appear before the court despite several summons. It finally passed an order, asking her to pay Rs 34 lakh with interest and followed it up with a warrant - issued on February 8 - for her arrest if she failed to return the loan amount. The court also directed the jurisdictional Chamrajpet police to arrest her and send her to the central prison in Parappana Agrahara.

The police arrested Jayasridevi and produced her before the court, which remanded her to judicial custody. Jayasridevi's counsel has gone to the high court with an appeal against her conviction. She has produced nearly 25 superhit Kannada movies.
