'Shettar made Hubballi a hell'

Last Updated 22 March 2018, 15:42 IST

"Even after becoming the MLA for five terms and occupying prime positions like minister, chief minister, and Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, Jagadish Shettar is a failure in development aspects, and he has made Hubballi City a big hell," charged JD(S) candidate in Assembly polls from Hubballi-Dharwad Central constituency Rajanna Koravi.

Speaking to media persons here on Thursday, he charged that Mr Shettar comes wearing a new mask in every election, and this time, he is asking people to vote for him to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

As an MLA, Mr Shettar did not show interest to construct Ashraya houses, and he did nothing to help poor people and farmers. He is unfit to be the Leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly, while he did nothing to develop the infrastructure in Hubballi even when he was the chief minister. Hubballi has nothing but dust, potholes, and water scarcity, he lamented.

In the absence of a ring-road and flyover, traffic congestion is very common in Hubballi City. Sewage water is flowing in the nala at Toravihakkal, and women prepare food on its banks. Mr Shettar has not visited that place even today. Though the BJP is in power in the HDMC since last 10 years, and sufficient quantity of water is available in Malaprabha reservoir, the BJP has failed to take effective steps to solve the water woes in the City. Factories are closed, new industries are not coming, and job creation is not taking place, he said, adding, the BRTS is a failure everywhere, and it is being implemented here.

'Change needed'

"To make Hubballi free from the curse, and to bring change, its representative has to be changed. There is no need to continue Mr Shettar as the MLA of this constituency. People are fed up with national parties. If I am elected, I will do those works which Mr Shettar could not do in last 24 years. Drinking water, good roads, proper implementation of 'Smart City' project, organising job fairs and training youth, development of hospitals, and bringing Mahadayi water would be my priorities," Mr Koravi noted.

We are already conducting door-to-door campaign, and are distributing 50,000 pamphlets under 'Manemanege Kumaranna' campaign. State JD(S) President H D Kumaraswamy's message is being displayed on LED screens. Mr Kumaraswamy has been asked to release the second list of JD(S) candidates in Hubballi itself, Mr Koravi said.

There are many errors in the voters' list, and the election commission would be urged to rectify them, he added.

JD(S) leaders Suresh Patil, Damayanti Annigeri, Naveen Muniyappanavar, and others were present.
